Experience
BLB Surveyors acts extensively within both public and private sectors and has long term framework agreements with a
range of clients including The University of Sussex, East Sussex County Council, West Sussex County Council and Kent County Council.
With each of these clients we provide a full range of services from our in-house team of professionals.
This project, which has a total contract value
of £12 million, involves the construction of three individual blocks
of student facilities to provide residential, study and amenity
space. BLB Surveyors is providing Quantity Surveying Services on
this project which is the single biggest development that The University
of Sussex has undertaken since the university was constructed in
the 1960s.
The University of Sussex New Teaching
Building and Car Park
This project has a total contract value of £10 million and comprises
the construction of a stand-alone lecture theatre building that
provides two state-of-the-art lecture facilities each accommodating
150 persons. The two rooms can be linked together to provide a 300
person facility. In addition to the main theatres, there are a number
of teaching and tutorial facilities housed within the building.
To support the use of the building there is provision for a restaurant/coffee
shop space, plus break out areas and toilet facilities. To enable
this development the existing car park was replaced with a new open
deck facility sympathetically cut into the surrounding hillside.
BLB Surveyors is providing both Quantity Surveying and Project Management
Services on this scheme.
BLB Surveyors was appointed by West Sussex County Council to provide
Quantity Surveying Services for this project which involved the
construction of a new teaching block adjoining existing facilities.
This project involved the construction of a new stand alone gymnasium
building including changing rooms, teaching space and ancillary
facilities on the upper floor. BLB Surveyors provided Quantity Surveying
Services to the college on this scheme which replaced an outdated
building with a state of the art resource suitable for current and
future requirements.
The Brighton and Sussex Medical School, based
at The University of Sussex, elected to develop, as part of their
research programme, a dedicated PET/CT and MRI scanning facility.
The new machinery comprised a 64 slice PET/CT scanner - the first
of its kind in the UK and only the second in Europe. When combined
with the MRI scanner the facility becomes the most advanced of its
kind worldwide. BLB Surveyors provided Building Surveying, Quantity
Surveying and Project Management Services. In addition we provided
a Health and Safety Consultancy in association with the in-house university
team and external radiation specialists in order to ensure that
this development met the most stringent external tests.
East Sussex County Council Stock
Condition Surveys
As part of our 5 year framework agreement BLB
Surveyors has undertaken, on a rolling annual basis, stock condition
surveys and planned preventative maintenance schedules of all non-education
council properties. This on average involves surveying 70 properties
in a condensed 3 month period to meet council targets and their
commitment to the community.
BLB Surveyors is a retained partner with Lewes
District Council and we provide building surveying services on a
range of projects including - 10 year re-wiring programme of all
housing stock - maintenance and external refurbishments of low rise
and high rise blocks - disabled adaptations - fire reinstatements
- void properties
This is a fully operational facility that required
extending and refurbishing to meet new standards. This project called
upon our skills of architectural design coupled with detailed programming
to ensure that works on site progressed unhindered whilst maintaining
a safe environment for young children. The works continued throughout
term time requiring close liaison with staff and governors and health
and safety was paramount throughout the project. BLB Surveyors provided
all consultancy services as a single appointment.
This was a brownfield development built upon
an abandoned BT site. The project comprised site clearance, remediation
and the subsequent development of 12 light industrial units that
were intended for re-sale. The project was complicated by the fact
that the vacant site abutted Hove Fire Station and was adjacent
to the prison serviceís transport facilities, meaning that access
and egress were difficult. This was a private development of £2.5million
where BLB Surveyors provided both Project Management and Quantity
Surveying Services.
This was a new build project in mid Sussex, where
BLB Surveyors provided Project Management and Quantity Surveying
Services to a private client. It is an interesting example of a
new building constructed entirely of natural stone but with sustainable
supporting elements such as ground source heat pump mechanical services
and timber cladding to ancillary buildings. In addition, this building
combines traditional construction techniques with modern elements
such as structural glazing.
This project involved working on two sites that
were distant by some 100m but required close co-ordination between
the existing operations that ran continually throughout the contract.
The works comprised the refurbishment of the existing spaces and
the replacement of the existing floor slabs in order to support
greatly increased live loads from new plant and equipment. BLB Surveyors
provided Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying
and Planning Supervisor Services. In addition we were responsible
for the programming and delivery of the new machinery and plant
valued in excess of £4million which were bespoke made and delivered
from Japan without any opportunity of delay.
